| As many of you saw, I was involved in the 100 Women Who Care Windsor-Essex charity event. I got involved with this by default, as my former colleague co-founded it with another woman in the community. Even though I was let go from my position that saw me working with this woman, I vowed to still be a part of this charity as I believe in the purpose of this organization. There are many chapters of 100 Women Who Care across Canada. The Windsor-Essex chapter was founded two years ago. The purpose is really simple: gather 100 women who pledge to donate $100 to a local charity. The goal is to donate a minimum of $10, 000 to a local charity within one hour. Who knew that fundraising could really be this simple? There is a meeting once every three months, amounting to 4 per year. These meetings are less than one hour (perfect for any person who has responsibilities outside of work). I have been involved in the organizing of the last three meetings and I don't plan on ceasing helping out. The meetings are so powerful. Three charities are randomly drawn out of a hat and a 5 minute presentation is given about each of the charities and what the funds would be spent on. With these presentations, your mind is opened to the sheer need of so many organizations, and people, within your community. You realize just how small you are in the world, yet are reminded about how your contribution can mean so much in your community. It can really put your life into perspective and be very humbling. This organization has meant so much to my community that it started a trend; there is now a 100 Kids Who Care chapter and a 100 Men Who Give A Damn chapter. So many people are realizing the impact of this organization and doing what they can to further the cause. With my knowledge about how this organization is managed, I highly recommend each one of you set up a chapter in your community and begin a “revolution”. If any of you out there are interested, please let me know and I can give you as much background information as needed. It really is a fulfilling idea and can help countless people in your community.
